I told myself that no matter how lazy I am, I must to post s.th on this first year of the year 1/1/2007.. and yeah.,, Happy New Year!!.. I wish this will be a great year for all of you..as well as to myself !!
Before I never pay much attention to any other new year beside the Chinese New Year, it's just the way in Phnom Penh city,.. or especially in my family, but now in the U.S., since everyone here goes by this New Year... Jan 1st, so I got to follow. Tonight many people in the U.S gather in the city center of different states for the count down activity., although I didn't go due to the weather is too cold for me, but I already counted down three times with all my different friends on the phone... the first one was at 12am time in Cambodia, second was at 9pm here, while there was one of my friend called from New York at 12am there, and the last one was at 12am here in Seattle.
2007 begin, everything is new again.!! for this year, i will try to improve some of my bad habits. Probably learn to accept my own mistake and being less confident in myself will be the first goal.. the reason is becoz many of my friends complain about this..and I figure out that I should listen to people's ideas more than I used to be.
Anyway, I got s.th I want to share with you guys about some of the differences between Cambodia and the U.S..
1. People in Cambodia prefer duck egg and people in the U.S. prefer chicken egg.
2. When people saying s.th good about you; people in Cambodia would politely reject the statement, while people in the U.S. will say thank you, and proud to accept that.
3. For dinner, people in Cambodia go by the family style (sharing all the food); most of the people in the US will only get to eat their own food.
4. People in Cambodia have rice with meal, American people barely eat rice.
5. All schools in Cambodia require student wear uniform; most of the school in the U.S. don't require that.
6. when you meet your friend's parent, in Cambodia we call them aunt or uncle; in the U.S. we call them by their first name.
7. Giving a huge might not be common in Cambodia, but it's very common in the U.S.
8. People in Cambodia drink boiled water; people in the US drink water come directly from the sink.
That's all I can think of for now.., and I think this might be the only post for me in this month, but still I will try to update as often as I can. Again, wish you guys a Happy New Year!!
